Picking Domain Names: With or Without Keywords?

Matt Cutts from Google gives a heads up on using keywords in domain names. I guess we don't really have any control over what they do (ya think?), but it's good to know there might be some changes in how Google values sites with keywords in the name.

Good news for sites with brands as a name, however.  But watch the video, and you decide. What's your experience with using keywords in a URL? What do you think about the potential shift of importance Matt talks of in the video?

How Much Website Traffic do You Need to Achieve Your Sales Goals?

Copy_of_b2b-inbound-marketing-traffic-calculator.xls Download this file
When you get down to brass tacks, a huge reason to get jiggy with enterprise social media is to increase sales. But how much traffic do you need in order to hit your sales goals?

  • First order of business, figure out how much new monthly income you'd like to generate! Then plug it into the calculator above.
  • Then work out the average amount of revenue one customer brings to the table. If you don't have an exact number, guesstimate. Plug that in too.
  • Then work out your conversion rates. Just starting in internet marketing? Fine. Start with 1% with a goal to work up to 2%. Plug those in.

Play with the numbers, get a grip on what your goals are traffic wise. Then gear up to create content! If you're not sure what all this means, be sure to attend the Burbank Inbound Marketing Club and I'll help you sort it out.

This Just In: Blogs Best at Driving Traffic

Visits_vs_indexed_page_count
Thanks to Hubspot's extensive client list (4000+) and amazing software, they are able to provide some insight as to what it really takes to drive traffic. While I have a devoted a 13-part series of blogs posts to Hubspot's annual report on Inbound Marketing on my "official" blog, I wanted to provide some idea of what it takes to successfully blog in today's competitive environment online.

Have you avoided blogging? I'd love to hear what your challenges are in this area. Time? Can't write well? Don't know what to write about? Is your computer still in it's original packaging?

Drop me a line and let me know, or comment below. One thing is becoming very clear to me, which is that blogging must be mastered if you want to level the playing field and compete for business online.
