How Fairytales Really End

I got these photos in one of those pass-around emails, and it struck me that there is a message for those embarking on a social media campaign for their business.  You really do have to work at it.

Yes, that's overly simplistic.  Why deal in complexities when things can be kept simple? Let's face it, a relationship requires work. Even if you find the perfect spouse, at some point the curtain comes down and you have to get off the stage and face reality.  Even if you are Snow White.

Social Media campaigns are all about relationships with your customers, friends, family - anyone who might refer you business.  And if you aren't providing something of value, that relationship will wither and die, or worse, turn against you.

On the bright side. small business owners are perfectly positioned to provide great customized service compared to a "big business" that might have tons of customer service reps, but the customer is probably never going to talk to the owner.  Since a lot of small business owners are in the trenches working with customers anyway, they can be more nimble in fixing service issues, etc.

So, the point is, be consistent and offer value to your "constiuents" so they have a reason to come back to you. Otherwise, you might just end up like The Little Mermaid (below).
