Demystifying Social Media Webinar Now Available!

Is this you trying to sort out Social Media for your business?

Spaghetti-kid

Social Media has moved to the forefront of business marketing. But many small and medium-size businesses or independent professionals are still struggling to gain an overall perspective on the topic. Where should one start? What social networks are important?

In this recorded webinar, I demystify Social Media and teach how to use it to create a strong online presence and effectively build a 24/7 referral network that never sleeps. You will learn:

  • The 3 Fundamental steps of any online marketing campaign
  • The main reason businesses need to have a strong online presence
  • The Silent Secret of Social Media and why it’s so powerful
  • Where online Social NWs: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc., fit in the overall marketing picture
  • How to use online social networks to “show up” in front of prospects who are looking for your product or service right now

This webinar is very basic, and I attempt to undercut what most people assume is already understood. I created this video because I find that so many people use terms like Google, blogs, Internet and web, yet don't actually fully understand what these words mean. As a result they struggle with the various programs available online (free and otherwise).

Also often missing is an overall perspective of where social media fits into a company's marketing mix. This webinar has a very important overview of the entire topic of marketing online. I hope it's helpful!

Facebook Destroys Personal Privacy! And the World!

Pretty catchy title, eh?

Yep, every month at least I am asked a question about privacy issues on Facebook. Usually it's based on some really alarming bit of news that's spread around and sounds really horrifying.

The funny thing is, in my opinion, Facebook has been pretty sensitive to privacy issues and customizing it for it's users. If you had 500 billion "customers," would you be able to keep up with every single request to make your business suit every single user perfectly? I know I wouldn't! So I find it hard to be critical about their privacy "issues."

In this article the title accuses Facebook of a privacy breach. But what the article is really talking about is 3rd Party Applications that utilize Facebook through it's open source programming. That means that a company outside of Facebook can access the Facebook program and connect to users.

I'm generally careful about which 3rd party applications I allow to connect to my Facebook profile because they generally require pretty open access to my information. So I only allows ones I'm actually going to use for some purpose, like the "Reviews" application for my business Page. Other popular applications are Farmville and Yoville.

If you don't have a hankering to read the whole article, here's a video that covers the basics:

Burbank Inbound Marketing Club Takes On Blogging

Each week I have a class called the Burbank Inbound Marketing Club, mostly for business owners struggling with understanding and implementing social media for business. It's hard to have a social media plan if the pieces of the plan are confusing. So my main bent is to demystify the situation while actually getting something implemented for each person.

Admittedly, getting something done for each person can be a challenge, as each person tends to be at a different level.  Still, we have fun and try to keep it as practical as possible. Today we continued discussions from previous weeks where we got a number of people started on blogs from posterous.com.  While Posterous blogs are insanely easy to use, there is still quite a lot of functionality, and quite a bit to grasp if you're completely new to online social media.

I like to give lots of examples, and today was no exception. I forget what the exact question was, but I gave a quick demonstration of how content can go viral on Facebook, because it is so easy to share information though personal profiles and fan pages.

In this class, we worked on setting up everyone's Posterous blog with the built-in auto-post feature. Posterous is set up to post out to other social media sites using email (actually, there's two ways to post content, but being able to use email is pretty sexy!).  I was hoping to show everyone how to install Google Analytics, but we ran out of time. So we'll cover that next week, briefly.

Somehow the topic of Twitter came up, and it was unanimously decided that Twitter would be the main topic of the next class. I had been planning to cover Facebook Fan Pages, but apparently I've been overruled.  It was also decided that the class would be on Tuesday. So, it's out of my hands, I'm afraid. That would be Oct 12th, by the way. If you'd like to RSVP to attend, visit the Really Simple Social Media Page event listing, and click on "I'm Attending."

If you are only able to attend the Thursday night classes, I apologize in advance!

I am going to attempt putting together an instruction sheet on how to add Google Analytics to a Posterous account, which will require setting up a Google Analytics if you don't alreadh have one. If you'd like to be included on the Burbank Inbound Marketing Club mailing list to get the instructions, please email me at trevor@theassociation.tv and put "Google Analytics for Posterous" in the subject line. Cheers!

Burbank Inbound Marketing Club 8 July 2010

Last night we had our 2nd Burbank Inbound Marketing Club meeting. Josh Ross from Josh Ross Creative Guest Starred as a Social Media Whiz, and pinch hit regarding Mac instruction (I'm still a PC guy).

Some great connections were made and it was lots of fun. The topic was using Google Places, and nearly everyone got themselves listed as a business on Google's map platform.

Here's some of the feedback:

"Thank you so much.  I lof this, especially that we

accomplish a product while we are here!!"   K.M.

"Love the workshop!"   J.T

"I love coming here. It's fun and I understand what you teach me."  N.H.

"So happy to be invited to this group. Love to see step by step things."  A.L.

Next week on Tuesday the 13th, we will focus on posting visual and written content on Facebook Fan Pages (Business Pages) using Facebook's built-in viral capabilities.  In other words, how to promote your business page without having to send out repeated (read: Annoying) invitations over and over to friends who may not even use your products or service!

If you'd like to come to the next meeting, RSVP at the Really Simple Social Media fan page on Facebook.

If you've never been to my Expand Your Business Using Social Media seminar, view the 5 part series online before coming to the Club!  The seminar gives a birds-eye view of social media, and explains some fundementals that are very helpful to know beforehand.

Til Tuesday!

Instant Website Visibility: Online Optimized Press Releases

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <!-- /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:purple; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:45.0pt 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} -->

One of the primary challenges business owners face in current times is a 1st page presence on search engines.  Consumers tend to conduct an internet-based search to validate a decision to purchase (or not to purchase).  If a business cannot be found online, with decent reviews or some kind of conversation happening about it, there are a few assumptions that may be made (assumptions are not necessarily based on truth!):

1) The company is no longer in business
2) The company doesn't care about it's customers so hasn't bothered with an online presence.
3) The product or service must not be that great as "no one" is talking about it.

Oddly enough, it is possible that companies with the best service and best products haven't relied on advertising or marketing  because they live off referrals from happy customers.  The only problem is that once a potential customer gets referred by a friend, it's very likely that potential customer will still Google search anyway.  What will they find? For businesses relying on referrals only, probably not much.

Building up a large enough community to dominate search results and appear on the 1st page can take time, but should be done anyway.  However, while that's underway, there is another option.  Online Optimized Press Releases.  A Press Release is news, and is indexed into search engines right away.  After all, news isn't very useful if it appears 3-6 months later, is it?

Great, so that means anyone could write a quick article, submit it to a couple of Press Release sites and instantly end up on the 1st page of a Google Search, right?  Not even close!  A lot of skill and experience go into properly done, optimized online press releases.

While there are lots of options, the only real option is the one that gets results.  Our press release specialist is a 30 year press release veteran, expert at Search Engine Optimization, writing, research, interviewing and has a proprietary blend (our secret sauce, if you will) of sites geared towards press release submission.   Like a highly trained hitman, she nails that 1st page 99% of the time.  The really amazing part:  she's super nice, with the bedside manner of that concierge you met at the swanky resort you frequented when business was still good (and you could afford vacations at nice places).  Her most recent press release was for 20/20 Financial Services (ex: http://www.pressreleasepoint.com/la-crescenta-federal-tax-return-help-requests-rise-reports-2020-financial).

Creating a relevant, engaging presence online that allows a company to converse with it's customers is a must these days for most businesses.  It often takes a few months to make a significant impact on your bottom line.  How much business are you missing right now, today, as people search for your business and can't find it on that ever so important 1st page?  Might want to check that out.

If your business has an active cloaking device when it comes to online search engines, you might consider hiring a trained professional to "take out the competition for you".  Remember, the pen is mightier than the sword.
